It is on the bank of Panchaganga River near smashanghat (Funeral Place) in Kolhapur. In funeral procedure, the dead bodies are burnt with the help of wood and dried cow dung. The ash remains after the funeral is collected in Rakshakund and distributed to the farmers as organic manure which is rich in Potash. Earlier it was dumped in river causing pollution of river water. Thus, this permanent activity prevents the water pollution and protects the environment. Every day averagely 200 to 220 peoples visit the Rakshakund. Approximately 6300 people visited Rakshakund in August 2024. | View | ||
